“Joy to the world, the Lord is come!”

“Joy to the world, the Lord is come!”

You are welcome to join us for our annual Carol Service at 6.30pm on Sunday 9thDecember – a time of Christmas praise and reflection on God’s Word followed by supper and a time of fellowship together.

This year, our choir will sing two Chris Tomlin songs. ‘He shall reign forevermore’ features some of the words from the well-known Carol, ‘In the Bleak Mid-winter’. The chorus uses Isaiah’s prophecy of the coming Christ – “For unto us a child is born” – a child who is King of kings and Lord of lords and will reign forever!

The second piece uses the lyrics of ‘Hymn of Joy’ which was written in 1907 for Beethoven’s famous ‘Ode to Joy’ melody. The words are a wonderful expression of the joyful adoration of God. The additional chorus keeps with the theme of rejoicing as we give praise for Immanuel coming to dwell among us.

Join with us as we rejoice in the wonder of the Christmas story, reflecting on the angels bringing “good tidings of great joy”, the shepherds who were “glorifying and praising God” and the wise men who “rejoiced with exceeding great joy”.

“Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel, Your love has come here to dwell.”
